Singer/songwriter Josh Kelley has come a long way from his hometown Augusta, Georgia where he started a band with his younger brother, Charles, now of Lady Antebellum, at age 11. By age 14, he self-released a short 5-song CD called Changing Faces.
He wrote the song Amazing as a sophomore at Ole Miss, and it immediately attracted the attention of major labels. Hollywood Records released his debut album, For The Ride Home, in 2003. This album showcased his no-nonsense expressiveness and disarmingly genuine delivery, with Amazing becoming a Top Five radio smash, and a follow-up Top Ten hit Everybody Wants You. In 2005, he released his second Hollywood album, Almost Honest.
Entertainment Weekly praised Almost Honest for being “soulful, folk-informed, and unflaggingly melodic.” People Magazine called Josh, “the real deal, a genuine talent who brings sincere emotion to his straight-forward pop rock.” The CD topped the Billboard New Artist Chart upon release and was featured on the iTunes home page.
His third album Just Say the Word was released on his own DNK Records in 2006 demonstrating an eclectic range of musical evolution: “I often heard people say that sometimes you just wake up in life and realize that you want to be better – well, that’s what happened to me about one year ago. I found a new love in my life and an extra spark to my passion for music. Just Say the Word is a direct reflection of my growth.”
He continued his upward swing professionally and personally (Josh wed Katherine Heigl in December 2007), releasing his fourth album, Special Company, in 2008.
With his career now firmly in his own hands, his most recent album, also on DNK, is entitled To Remember and released in September, 2008 exclusively to Target stores. Josh notes that this latest project is the best album of his career. It also features the single To Remember, utilized in the AT&T Olympic Campaign.
